The Christ Central story began in August of 1992. Prayer meetings were held in the basement of a church in downtown Columbia for 96 weeks. Then, in June of 1994, a man came asking for food. The next day five more came, and the numbers continued to grow.
Christ Central has continued to grow and expand its services to include: hot meals, food distribution, clothing distribution, shower and laundry facilities for the homeless, job placement assistance, family shelters, men's shelters, women and children's shelters, children's ministries, domestic violence assistance, job training, continuing education, and higher education.
Today, Christ Central Ministries consists of 10 Mission Stations, Christ Central Institute, and Christ Central Kids Kamps.
Founded in 2001, Christ Central New Ellenton assists the needy in our community with many services. However, our main mission is to instill Christian character and educational values in the children of New Ellenton. We have an after school program Monday thru Thursday whereby 60 to 70 children come to our facility and are assisted with home work, tutored in week areas and counseled to display acceptable behavior and positive attitudes. In addition to daily snacks and drinks being provided, a meal is served each Thursday. Sleepovers, campouts and fishing trips take place throughout the year. Principals and teachers at the local schools have noted improved test scores and dramatic changes in students behavior who attend our after school program. Christ Central staff provides in school tutoring to New Ellenton Middle School students on Mondays and Wednesdays.
We have a food pantry that assists 600 families in our community throughout the year. Over 70% of food distributed goes to senior citizens. We also have a clothing closet to assist the needy and with the partnership of local churches and organizations sponsor over 200 children each Christmas
